Money: Root of All Evil?

We have all heard, "Money is the root of all evil." Where did that quote even come from? The Bible right? Not!

Believe it or not, the scripture that the quote came from is actually constantly misquoted. As long as I can remember, I have heard people proudly correct and rebuke others with this misspoken quote.

Where did the statement come from? First Timothy 6:10 is the original, correct quote. The scripture actually says that it is the LOVE of money that is the root of all evil. What is the difference, you might ask? The difference is YOUR HEART!

God is more interested in your heart and it's connection with money, and anything else for that matter. Is money king of your heart or Jesus? Does money have the final say of your every decision or your Creator?

When a person's HEART loves money, they will typically lie, steal, kill, manipulate, and do whatever else they deem necessary to get more of it. That is why the LOVE of money is behind so much evil that we see, not the money itself!

Another famous scripture used to keep Christians from having more than enough is the story in Matthew 19:16-24. Jesus said in verse 24 that is is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. The video below tells that story, with other scriptures, within context. Again, it is not about the money!

It is important for us to renew our minds with the Word of God. We have to rightly divide the Word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15) in order for the Word to change our lives as it is intended to.

Like this blog post, in the book, Refreshed Daily, there are 21 days of topics that the Word is used to support itself. It will bring clarity and freedom to walk in what God really intended for His children. Be blessed!
